Born in Lisburn, Co. Antrim, Ireland.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Belfast on the 27th of April 1854.

Age: 17 years 11 months.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Weaver.

Features: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service,

Transferred to the 3rd Dragoon Guards on the 15th of January 1857.

From Private to Corporal: 28th of December 1857.

Confined, 14th-22nd of September 1859 at Sholapur, India, and reduced to Private.

From Private to Corporal: 23rd of September 1861.

"Absent", 12th-13th of August 1864, and reduced to Private on the 13th of August.

From Private to Corporal: 23rd of September 1861.

Re-engaged for 12 years further service on the 15th of March 1866.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of July 1867.

Transferred to the Suffolk Yeomanry Cavalry on the 26th of June 1874.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Liverpool on the 21st of March 1876, at his "Own request, free to pension after serving 21 years."

Served 21 years 277 days. In Turkey and the Crimea, 1 year. East Indies, 5 years 225 days.

Conduct: "good."

In possession of two Good Conduct badges when promoted and would now have had four.

Seven times entered in the Regimental Defaulters' book. Twice tried by Court-martial.

Medals

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean and Turkish medals.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol and Turkish medal.
