Birth & early life

Born at Llansillen, near Oswestry, Salop, c.1832.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Shrewsbury on the 18th of December 1854.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Labourer.

Features: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

He is shown on a nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being On Duty there from the 24th of October.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Cahir on the 15th of November 1856 as:

"Unfit for further service. Suffers from Inguinal hernia of the right side — cause unknown, but probably due to some strain. Cannot be considered as effective for a dragoon's duty. Military service cannot be said to have caused his disability.

Served 1 year 333 days. In Turkey and the Crimea 10 months.

Conduct and character: "good".

Awarded a pension of 6d. per day for 6 months.

Medals

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Life after service

Intended to live in Shrewsbury after discharge.
