1317, Corporal John MURRAY — 13th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Hounslow, c.1828.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 7th of January 1847.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Carpenter.

Service

From Private to Corporal: 1st of October 1854.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of February 1856.

"Deserted" from Newbridge on the 9th of October 1857.

Rejoined after "absence" on the 8th of December and was reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 9th of December 1857.

Sent to the Depot at York when the regiment went to Canada, 11th of September 1866.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Canterbury Depot, with the "right of registry for a deferred pension upon reaching the age of 50 years", on the 26th of November 1866.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, Sebastopol and the Turkish medal:

"Fresh medal" granted on the 13th of August 1856.
