COLONEL J. S. YOUNG,

6th February, 1897. Secretary Royal Commission of the Patriotic Fund.

ROYAL COMMISSION OF THE PATRIOTIC FUND, 53 Charing Cross, London. S.W.

Sir,

I am in receipt your letter and of a communication from the War Office, referring to an application made by you to that office for certain information respecting the survivors of the Light Brigade who took part in the Balaclava Charge, 25th October, 1854.

It is not in my power to give all the information you ask for. But, such information as I have, I am very pleased to give you, in the shape of the accompanying list of:

1 - Survivors now in receipt of allowances from the Light Brigade (Balaclava) Relief Fund administered by this Commission.

2. - Survivors, so far as known to this office, who have died since the transfer to this Commission in February, 1892, of the balance (about (£3,000) of the Fund (£6,754) raised in 1890, by a Committee of Peers, Members of Parliament, Military Officers, and others.

I may add that this balance of the Fund raised in 1890, now, only amounts to £2,600 and is constantly diminishing, also that the accounts of the Fund have been since 1892, and are, included in the Reports of this Commission to Her Majesty the Queen, which are presented to Parliament, and can, therefore, be obtained as Parliamentary papers in the usual way.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient servant

(COLONEL) J.S. YOUNG [sic?]
