1523, Private Miles Mason ALLISON — 17th Lancers

Birth & early life

Born at Bedale, Yorkshire, and baptised at Burneston on the 1st of September 1830, the son of John Allison and his wife, Jane.

This would make him older than he stated on enlistment, but probably done purposely because of the then-current age limit of 24 years on enlistment.

1841 Census

Burneston, Bedale, Yorks.

Miles, aged 8, was living with his parents John Allison, 65, Bailiff, mother Jane, and three siblings: Mary 14, John 12, and Elizabeth 6.

1851 Census

Market Place, Bedale.

Miles Allenson [sic], 21, Apprentice Draper, born Londonderry, Bedale, N Yorks. [?]

Enlistment

Enlisted at Liverpool on the 3rd of February 1855.

Age: 23.

Height: 5' 5".

Trade: Draper.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 29th of June 1855.

Died, "in the General Hospital" at Scutari, on the 17th of August 1855.

Next of kin: Mother, Jane Allison, living in York.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Died, "in the General Hospital" at Scutari, on the 17th of August 1855.
