Enlisted at London on the 4th of September 1854.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Auburn hair.
Deserted on the 18th of September 1854. Rejoined the regiment on the 21st of November 1854. Sentenced by a Regt. Court-martial to imprisonment from the 21st to the 28th of November, and "to forfeit his previous service of 14 days".
Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1854.
Discharged from Canterbury on the 7th of November 1856:
"Is inefficient and the Reduction of the Army. Suffers from the effects of diarrhoea — has a very weak and delicate constitution which renders him quite unfit or ever likely to became effective as a soldier."
Served 1 year 316 days. In Turkey and the Crimea 10 months.
Conduct: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.
Once tried by Court-martial: "Tried for desertion when a young soldier, but his conduct has been good since."
Aged 20 years 3 months on discharge.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
[PB: Can the following person — a stonemason — really be 1737 John Scarefe Bainbridge, especially since he was a musician at enlistment, and given the comment at discharge that he had "a very weak and delicate constitution which renders him quite unfit"? On the other hand, his certainly seems an unusual name.]
