Birth & early life

Born at Twickenham, near Richmond, Surrey.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Heston, Middlesex, on the 6th of October 1852.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Labourer.

Features: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 27th of October 1854 and rejoined the regiment on the 25th of February 1855.

Discharge & pension

>Discharged from Cahir, 15th of November 1856, as a result of:

"The reduction of the Army and being totally unfit for service. This man labours under secondary syphilis — the result of primary syphilis. The disease has shown itself in the form of eruptions on the skin, pain in the bones and severe Fritis attacking both eyes. I am of the opinion that he will not prove permanently effective, but will from time to time have relapses. His military service has been in no way injurious to him. He is able to earn his own living."

Served 4 years 39 days. In Turkey and the Crimea: 2 years.

Conduct: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Aged 22 years on discharge.

Granted a pension of 6d. per day for one year.

To live at Twickenham after discharge.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Balaclava and Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
