Birth & early lfe

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dorchester from the Dorset Militia on the 1st of March 1855.

Age: 23.

Height: 5' 8".

Service, discharge & pension

Embarked for the Crimea on the 4th of September 1855 and arrived in the Crimea at Balaclava as part of a draft of 50 men under the command of Lt. Robert MacNeill, on the 29th of September 1855. Served in Eupatoria.

Confined, 18th — 28th April 1857, and in Dill Military Prison from the 29th of April until released on the 31st of August.

Transferred to the 17th Lancers at Newbridge, 10th of September 1857, Regimental No. 79.

Served in Eupatoria.

Sent to the Depot at Maidstone when the regiment embarked for India.

Joined the regiment in India from the Depot, 8 October 1858.

Re-engaged at Shorncliffe for a further 12 years.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to Crimean medal without clasp, and the Turkish Medal.

Can find no trace on Mutiny roll.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
