Birth & early life

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 15th of March 1854.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Tailor.

Service, discharge & pension

Sent to the Depot at Birmingham on the 1st of April 1854.

From Private to Corporal: 3rd of October 1854.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of May 1855.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 1st of August 1855.

Sent to Scutari on the 15th of September 1855 and is shown on a nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, as being On Duty there from the 16th of September.

Reduced to Private by a Regtl. Court-martial on the 16th of November 1855 for "being absent when Orderly Sergeant."

From Private to Corporal: 18th of June 1861.

Discharge & pension

>Discharged, "invalided" from Aldershot on the 11th of November 1864.

Served 10 years 8 months.

Conduct "very good." In possession of two G.C. badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.

Lummis and Wynn state that he "reverted" to Private and that his name does not appear on the medal roll.

Life after service

Living in Manchester after discharge, but he was in Dublin and Belfast in 1875.
