Birth & early life

Enlistment

Originally enlisted into the 9th Lancers at Maidstone on the 16th of January 1847. No regimental number was allocated as he did not join the regiment and there are no other enlistment details.

Trade: "None".

Service

Transferred to the 16th Lancers on the 1st of April 1847. Regimental No. 1692.

"In cells" awaiting trial, 18th/19th of June 1847, and imprisoned by a Regimental Court-martial 20th of June — 31st of July 1847.

Transferred to the 17th Lancers on the 1st of April 1854.

From Private to Corporal, 1st of July 1854.

Joined the regiment on the Crimea from Brighton on the 15th of April 1855.

From Corporal to Sergeant, 1st of July 1855.

Died "in the Regimental Hospital" at Ismid on the 24th of August 1855.

Next-of-kin: Father, William Baldwin, living in London.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
