Rode with No. 4 Troop (T.S.M. O'Hara) in the Charge at Balaklava, 25th October 1854. He is shown in his muster roll as "Wounded, and prisoner". (See copy in the 17th Lancer "Scrapbook".)

Commemorations

Death & burial

The muster roll states: "Died whilst a prisoner-of-war. Date not known."

According to a letter from Lieutenant Chadwick, 17th Lancers, dated 2nd of April 1855:

"Of twelve men of the 17th Lancers who were taken prisoners on the same day that I was, five only are living...The seven dead [include private] Harrison."

In his "Memoirs", James Wightman says: "Poor Brown died two days after his admission to the hospital at Alexandrovaska [sic?]." This would appear to have been early in 1855. (There is a copy of these "Memoirs" in the 17th Lancer file.)

Further information

See record of 1353 William Pearson of the 4th Hussars for details of their possible relationship.
