Birth & early life

Born in Norfolk.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Norwich on the 28th of November 1854.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Cork-cutter.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea from Cork on the 16th of July 1855.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain", 8th of October 1857.

The July-September 1858 muster rolls show him as being "On Field Service" from September.

Re-engaged for 12 years further service at Aldershot, 3rd of December 1866.

Sent to Sandhurst, as a servant, on the 23rd of October 1867.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase", from Hamilton, Scotland, on the 15th of January 1870. Payment of £8.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Can find no trace on the Mutiny medal roll.
