Enlisted at Birmingham on the 4th of January 1855.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Hazel eyes. Auburn hair.
Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of June 1855.
Invalided to England on the 26th of January 1856.
Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 15th of July 1856:
"Disabled from Phthisis — developed from service in the Crimea. States that he was exposed to severe cold and wet in July last and to which he attributed his disease."
In Turkey and the Crimea: 10 months.
Conduct and character: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.
Awarded a pension of 6d. per day for 6 months.
Living at Birmingham after discharge.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
