Birth & early life

Born at Hethersett, Norfolk.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Ipswich on the 21st of April 1852.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Servant.

Sent to Scutari on the 23rd of September 1854.

The muster roll states, "Believed to have died during the passage — on board ship", on the 29th of September 1854.

Next of kin: Mother, Mary Blake, living in Pocksthorpe, Norwich.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for the Alma.

Lummis and Wynn state he was also entitled to the clasp for Sebastopol, but his name is not to be found on the Sebastopol clasp roll.

A medal, with clasp for Alma only, impressed naming, appeared in Spink's list for December of 1975 and a medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol named to "W. Blake. 4th Light Dragoons." and described as being "impressed, some contacting," was offered in a Harwood Medals's list for September of 1979.
