Born in London on the 14th of June 1832, the son of Philip Augustus Browne, Esq., and his wife, Caroline Jessie, of No. 41 Devonshire Place, Portland Place, London.
He was christened at St. Mary's Church, Marylebone Road, on the 24th of July 1832.
Educated at Mr. Burr's School, Wokingham, Berkshire.
Cornet in the 4th Light Dragoons: 3rd of December 1850.
Lieutenant, 4th Light Dragoons: 26th of October 1854.
Captain, 4th Light Dragoons: 21st of September 1855.
Major, 4th Light Dragoons: 5th of May 1863.

"The Times" obituary notice reads:
"Browne. July 30th, at his father's residence, Charles Augustus Gunter Browne, Brevet Major 4th (Queen's Own Hussars) aged 33. Eldest son of Philip Augustus Browne, of 41 Devonshire Place, Portland Place, London."

Captain Browne served the Eastern campaign from the 28th of April to the 20th of July 1855, including the Siege of Sebastopol. (Medal and Clasp.)
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish Medal.
