Born at Woodstock, near Oxford. (A Thomas "Boswell" was christened there on the 1st of October 1826, the son of John (a labourer) and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hensington. [P]There are two parishes of this name, (Within and Without) 2 miles west of Woodstock.
Enlisted at Woodstock on the 10th of March 1846.

Conduct and character: "very good". Would have been in the possession of five Good Conduct badges if not promoted to Sergeant

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean medal with three clasps, the Turkish Medal and the Long Service & Good Conduct medal with a gratuity of £5.
To live at No. 21 Hays Mews, Berkeley Square, London. Was still living in London in 1875.
Is shown on the Regimental "Married roll" from the 13th of August 1867, his wife's name being Harriet.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.
Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal.
