Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Mary Anne." on the 19th of April 1854.
Sent to Scutari on the 1st of September 1854 and rejoined the regiment on the 11th of May 1855. .
He is shown on a nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being On Duty there from the 4th of November.
Sent to the Depot on the 1st of October 1857, when the regiment went to India.
Discharged as "unfit for further service," from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 13th of July 1858.
"Suffers much from injury to right ankle — caused by a horse falling on him whilst on duty at Londonderry on the 2nd of April 1857."
A note attached to his documents states:
"This man has ankylosis of the right ankle joint. He was on duty with a detachment of his Troop in aid of the civil power at Londonderry during the General Elections in April of 1857, and whilst parading for mounted duty his leg was broken by his horse falling on him. No blame was attached to the man himself."

Awarded a pension of 7d. per day "conditional" until the 20th of July 1863, but this was made permanent on the 16th of February 1864.
To live at Rowston, Lincolnshire, but he was living at Nottingham in 1875.
