Born in Shoreditch, London.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 6th of June 1854.

Trade: Labourer.

No other enlistment details are shown.

Service

In confinement: 29th-30th April 1855.

To service troops 10 July 1855, arrived as part of a draft on 3 August 1855.

Served Eupatoria.

Died in the Regimental Hospital at Preston on the 30th of January 1862.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

From the Returned Medal Book. Crimean medal.

Sent to the Mint. No trace of issue.

Death & burial

Died in the Regimental Hospital at Preston on the 30th of January 1862.

Next of kin: Father, Thomas Callaghan, living in Shoreditch, London.

He left no will, but had the sum of £1/17/9d in his "credits". Of this, £1/2/1 was given to the widow of his brother, Thomas, and 15/8 to his brother's daughter.
