Birth & early life

Enlistment

Enlisted at Cork on the 1st of December 1854.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: None shown.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea from Cork on the 16th of July 1855.

At Scutari, 8th of November — 11th of March 1856.

Sent to the Depot at Canterbury when the regiment went to India, 1st of October 1857.

Arrived at Bombay en route to join the regiment, 24th of April 1858.

His wife, Jane, died of "Hepatitis" at Secunderbad on the 23rd of November 1861, aged 23 years. She was buried on the 24th of November by the Revd. H. Pigot James, Chaplain.

From Private to Shoeing-Smith: 1st of June 1865.

Appointed to Farrier Sergeant, 1st of March 1866.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "time expired", from Brighton on the 12th of January 1867. Served 12 years 42 days.

Conduct: "very good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge when promoted to Sergeant

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Can find no trace on the Mutiny medal roll.
