Enlisted into the 3rd Light Dragoons at London, 27th of December 1843. Regimental No. 1442. Was a recruit at the Depot from the 6th of January 1843.

Service

Embarked for India, 29th of June 1844.

Transferred to the 17th Lancers, 29th of June 1853.

Hospital Orderly on the Crimea, 9th — 28th June 1855.

Served on the expedition to Kertch attached to the 10th Hussars from the 1st of October 1855.

Invalided to England aboard the "Clifton of Arabia", 25th of October 1855.

On the Depot roll at Brighton up to the 26th of May 1855.

He was engaged during the whole of the campaign in the Punjab up to the occupation of Peshwar.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase", from Brighton on the 27th of May 1856. Payment of £15.

Served 12 years 151 days.

Conduct and character: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Punjab medal with clasps for Chilianwala and Goojerat when serving in the 3rd. Light Dragoons.

Sutlej medal with reverse for Moodkee with clasps for Ferozeshuhur and Sobraon when serving in the 3rd Light Dragoons.

Life after service

A man of this name appears on the 1861 census returns as aged 35, born at Brighton, Sussex, lodging at 6 King Street, Kensington. He was unmarried and his occupation is given as "Park Keeper, Bd of Parks".

Death & burial

What is thought to be the same man is shown in the GRO registers as dying in the Kensington registration district in the December Quarter of 1863 His is age is not given, it being before it was required by law to do so.
