Birth & early life

Born in the parish of St. Mary's, Dublin.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dublin on the 18th of February 1847,

Age: 19 years 1 month.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Horse-trainer.

Fair complexion. Blue eyes. Brown hair.

Service

From Private to Corporal: 26th of February 1855.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of October 1857.

In confinement, 18th-21st of September, and reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 22nd of September 1860.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dublin on the 6th of March 1861:

"Own request, he having claimed it, free, with right of registry for a deferred pension of 4d. per day upon reaching the age of 50 years."

Served 14 years 12 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 10 months.

Conduct and character: " a good soldier".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges. Once tried by Court-martial.

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean and Turkish medals.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

To live at No. 14 Philips burg Avenue, North Strand, Dublin, after discharge.

Further information

He applied for his deferred pension of 4d. per day on the 16th of April 1879, but he was actually 50 years of age on the 18th of January 1878. At this time he was living at No. 180 King Street, Dublin, his name being shown as "Carbery".
