Birth & early life

Born in Dublin.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dublin on the 12th of March 1846.

Age: 17 years 2 months.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Cabinet-maker.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Shooting Star" on the 24th of April 1854.

Sent to Scutari on the 16th of September and to rejoin the regiment on the 20th of October 1854.

Sent to Scutari again on the 29th of October 1854, rejoining on the 2nd of April 1855.

Tried by a District-Court-martial on the 17th of April 1855 for "habitual drunkenness and making away with a pair of boots."

Given 50 lashes and stoppage of 1d. a day for 6 months.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 19th of June 1855 for "absence."

Awarded 50 lashes, but this sentence was remitted.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 4th of July 1855 for "absence and drunkenness."

Given 50 lashes.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 8th of September 1855 for "Disgraceful Conduct: making away with a greatcoat."

Given 5O lashes and awarded stoppage of pay.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 9th of October 1855 for "absence."

Given 50 lashes.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "in consequence of the "Reduction of the Army" and being of a bad character".

Served 10 years 6 days.

Conduct and character: "Bad".

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Balaclava and Sebastopol.
