Private Thomas ELLIS — 1313, 11th Hussars

Birth & early life

Born at Salford, Lancashire, c.1827.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Hulme Barracks, Manchester, on the 10th of December 1846.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Boiler-maker.

Service

"Deserted" from Canterbury on the 10th of October 1847 and rejoined the Regiment on the 27th. At the time of his desertion he was described as having a fair complexion, grey eyes, and light brown hair.

At Scutari, 4th of April — 10th of May 1855.

Died, "of cholera", at Camp Kadikoi on the 18th of June 1855.

Buried in the 11th Hussar cemetery on the road between Kadikoi and Karani. (There is a copy of the memorial inscription in the 11th Hussar file.)

Next of kin: Father, Joseph Ellis, living in Salford.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.
