Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 25th of August 1855 for "insolent and abusive language to a superior". Given 50 lashes.

Was batman to Captain Leith, July — September 1856.

Discharged, "by purchase", from Dublin on the 30th of December 1856. Payment of £30.

Served 6 years 78 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 10 months.

Conduct: "good".

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

A four-clasp Crimean medal was presented to the Regiment in 1982 by Major F.R.B. Fisher and A.N.J. Fisher, Esq, who had inherited it from their father, Lt. General Sir Bertie Fisher. It is named to "E. Eaton. 17th Lancers".

1881 Census

King's Head Public House, Putney High Street, London.

A man of this name, aged 50, is shown on the 1881 Census as unmarried, a Gardener. His birth place is shown as "Winstanton, Surrey", which could be a transcription error for Wincanton. Dorset). [RM]

He is further shown in the GRO records as dying, aged 51, in the Wandsworth registration district in the March quarter of 1882. [RM]
