Birth & early life

Born in Liverpool, c.1835.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Liverpool on the 6th of January 1855.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Shoe-maker.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 20th of June 1855.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 25th of August 1855 for "absence", and given 25 lashes.

Transferred to the 3rd Dragoon Guards at Dublin on the 24th of February 1857. Regimental No. 249.

Embarked for India aboard the "Ghengis Khan" on the 4th of August 1857.

In confinement, 12th — 16th of July, and "In cells" 17th of July — 4th of August 1858.

Appointed Acting Armourer on the 1st of July 1862.

He was discharged from the 3rd D.G in order to re-enlist in the Royal Corps of Armourers on the 19th of July 1865, but remained with the regiment.

Served 10 years 191 days.

Conduct and character: "good".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Sent to the British Small Arms Factory at Enfield on the 31st of October 1865.

Can find no further trace to 1879.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
