[RM: A man of this name and age is shown in the 1881 Census as living in the Union Workhouse, Llanilo Fawr, Carmarthen. Described as an Inmate pauper, "Shoemaker General", aged 49, born Llandilo, Carmarthen. 1126 William Evans gave his occupation as shoemaker on enlistment, so this could be him. ]
[PB: The Workhouses.org.uk transcription of the 1881 Census for Llandilo Fawr says WE was Deaf and Dumb — which implies either he is not our WE, or that he has become dead and dumb. (Check the images.) Notice that there are other people with the name "Evans"- are any members of his family?]
