Birth & early life

Born at Maidstone, Kent, c.1836.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 7th of September 1854.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Carpenter.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea from Cork on the 29th of May 1855 and joining the regiment, 20th of June.

Transferred to the 2nd Dragoon Guards at Dublin, 17th of December 1856. Regimental No. 256.

Embarked for India aboard the "Blenheim", 27th of July 1857.

From Private to Corporal: 30th of June 1858.

Corporal to Sergeant: 30th of April 1860.

Transferred to the 21st Hussars in India, 1st of December 1864. Regimental No. 671.

Served at Nusseratpore, Korsee and Lucknow.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

[RM: Spelt as "Evernden" on roll.]

Mutiny medal with clasp for Lucknow.

Death & burial

Died at Lucknow, India, on the 22nd of January 1871.

The India Office records show him as having committed suicide, aged 37 years. A verdict of "Temporary insanity" was given at Lucknow on the 22nd of January 1871. He was buried on the 23rd of January by the Revd. Baker Morrell, Chaplain, in the Cemetery at the Civil Station, Lucknow.
