Birth & early life

Born c.1834.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 25th of January 1852.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Clerk.

Service

Appointed to Orderly Room Clerk (on probation): 23rd of November 1853.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the "H. T. "Wilson Kennedy" on the 2nd of April 1854.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial for "Disgraceful conduct" on the 9th of October 1854. Reduced to Pte, and awarded 50 lashes, but this was remitted.

Sent to Scutari on the 9th of January and rejoined the regiment on the 11th of May 1855. (He was a clerk aboard a Hospital Ship during the time he was at Scutari. )

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase" from Dundalk on the 12th of July 1856. Payment of £30.

Served 4 years 16 days.

Conduct: "good".

Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Alma and Inkerman clasps, sent on a certificate from Colonel De Salis, dated the 4th of July 1856.
