Probable alias of William Flather.

Birth & early life

Born in Lancaster, c.1834

Enlistment

Enlisted at Liverpool on the 26th of November 1853.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Clerk.

Service

Severely wounded in action at Balaclava.

Sent to Scutari on the 4th of November 1854, and died there in March 1855.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava and Sebastopol.



Envelope addressed to "Henry Flather (father of the late Wilson Firth 11th Hussars), Hippersholme, Halifax, Yorkshire".

Died, "of Febris" [PB: "Fever", but of what cause?], at Scutari on the 3rd of March 1855.

    In March 2017, the EJBA was contacted by Bob Field, a distant cousin of William Flather. His personal genealogical researches had led him to believe William Flather may have fought and died in the Crimea as "Wilson Firth". He has created a web page at Wikitree: William Flather, with additional information.
