1297, Private Charles FINCH — 13th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Uxbridge, Middlesex, c.1828.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Uxbridge on the 8th of August 1846.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Labourer.

Service

At Scutari General Hospital from the 26th of September 1854 and sent to rejoin the regiment on the 20th of October.

He is shown on a Nominal Roll dated the 9th of November 1855, as being On Duty as a Farrier at Scutari from the 24th of October 1855. From this he did not serve in Eupatoria with the regiment.

To Shoeing-Smith from Private 11th of December 1867.

Sent money from the Crimea to his father, John Hunt, living at the "Swan Inn", Uxbridge.

Next of kin: Wife, Mary Ann Finch.

Died at Montreal, Canada, on the 13th of July 1868. [PB: Was he still on active service?]

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal on the 6th of November 1867, with a gratuity of £5.

Life after service

Death & burial

Died at Montreal, Canada, on the 13th of July 1868. [PB: Was he still on active service? Cause?]
