Birth & early life

Born at Michelstown, Co. Cork, c.1828.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dublin on the 2nd of March 1847.

Age: 19 years 3 months.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Clerk.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Brown eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 13th of December 1854 and rejoined the regiment on the 11th of May 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dublin on the 10th of May 1864.

"Discharged following pneumonia of both lungs — the result of the exposure incidental to a soldier's life. This invalid is not likely to be ever fit enough to contribute anything towards earning a livelihood."

Served 17 years 50 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 10 months.

Aged 36 years 8 months on discharge.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Twice entered in the Regimental Defaulter's book. Never tried by Court-martial.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

An impressed naming (clasps for A.I. and S.) Crimean medal to him was sold at Sotheby's from the "Captain Hyde-Greg" collection on the 16th of May 1887, (on a fancy silver buckle) at Glendining's, from the "Major John Tomb's" collection on the 23rd of April 1918, named to "E. Floyd. 4th Light Dragoons.", one with all four clasps (same naming) at Glendining's on the 16th of December 1921 and again at Glendining's on the 22nd of March 1932.

Died at Carlow, Ireland, on the 30th of March 1873.
