"Absent without leave" from Brighton from the 15-31st ofDecember 1850. Tried by a Regimental Court-martial and sentenced to 28 days "in Cells."
At this time he was described as being "of a fresh complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair."
Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H. T. "Echunga" on the 15 May 1854. Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S. S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.
Died at Meerut, India, on the 7th of April 1861.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.
Served at Kotah and Gwalior.
The Returned Medal book states "Mutiny medal returned to the Mint. No trace of issue".

Died at Meerut, India, on the 7th of April 1861.

The India Office records show him as dying of "Variola" [Smallpox] at Meerut on the 7th of April 1861, aged 31 years. He was then shown as being a L/Corporal.
He was buried on the 8th of April by the Revd E. W. Rotten, Chaplain, in the Cantonment Cemetery.
The Regimental "Casualty Returns" for the period show that he left no will. His credits were £65/15/1d.
