Birth & early life

Born in Leicester, 1832.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 11th of January 1850.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Servant.

Service

In 1856 he was Batman to Col. Yates Peel and Mess Waiter later in the year.

From Private to Corporal: 5th of March 1859.

Corporal to Sergeant: 24th of November 1860.

1861 Census

Hulme Cavalry Barracks, Chorlton.

G.H. Green, 28, unmarried, Sergeant, born St Giles, Norfolk [sic].

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by claim", from Dublin on the 11th of June 1862.

Conduct: "very good". In possession of two Good Conduct badges. Never tried by Court-martial.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 10 months.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

The Balaclava period muster roll shows no possible reason for absence, so he may have ridden in the Charge.
