Trade: Cabinet-maker.
Imprisoned by a Regimental Court-martial from the 27th of December 1856 to the 19th of March 1857.
"Deserted" from Aldershot on the 20th of December 1857 and rejoined the Regiment on the 3rd of April 1858.
Tried by a Regimental Court-martial at Aldershot on the 8th of April for 'Desertion and losing his necessaries"and sentenced to 50 lashes, marked with the letter "D" and 84 days' imprisonment, with hard labour.
Discharged with "Ignominy" from Manchester on the 15th of February 1860. Conduct and character: "very bad." Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.
Lummis and Wynn state that" he may have ridden in the Charge" but it is not known on what grounds this is based.
He was never known to have been a member of the Balaclava Commemoration Society nor to have ever attended any of the veterans' functions.
