Birth & early life

Born in London, c.1828.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 13th of January 1847.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Labourer.

"Deserted" from Hounslow on the 26th of December 1848 and rejoined the regiment on the 11th of January 1849. Tried by a Regimental Court-martial and sentenced to 30 days imprisonment.

At the time of his desertion he was described as being of a sallow complexion, grey eyes, light brown hair, and being 20 years 8 months of age.

Tried by a District Court-martial on the 8th of November 1854 for "being drunk on duty", Given 50 lashes and to lose 1d. per day for 30 days.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 8th of October 1855 for "drunkenness". Given 50 lashes.

Held by the Civil Power, 1st of October — 31st of December 1858.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Brighton, whilst in "Civil custody", as a "thoroughly bad character", effective from the 25th of September 1858.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.
