Editor's note: Jenkins is mentioned in Harry Powell's Recollections as a "first-class singer", serving in "A" troop (as was Powell).

"My troop embarked [from Portsmouth] on the 8th of May, 1854, on board the good little ship the "Mary Ann" ...the B troop on the "Negociator" ...We sailed in company with The Negociator for a long time, songs passing alternately between the two ships; we had a first-class singer on our ship by name T. Jenkins; towards evening we parted company and bid good bye" [pp.4-5].

He died of Cholera on the 27th of August 1854 at Yenibazar, Bulgaria.
