Birth & early life

Born at Welch Bray, Brecon, c.1829.

Enlistment

Enlisted into the Worcestershire Militia on the 1st of December 1852.

Enlisted into the 13th Light Dragoons at Worcester on the 11th of March 1854.

Age: 23.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Colt-breaker.

Features: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 21st of May 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Aldershot on the 24th of April 1864, as:

"Unfit for further service. Has constitutional syphilis — also suffers from loss of vision of left eye and impaired use of right eye. The results of repeated attacks of syphilis."

Conduct: "good". In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Fourteen times entered in the Regimental Defaulters' book. Never tried by Court-martial.

Served 9 years 350 days. In Turkey and the Crimea, 1 year 2 months.

Discharge & pension

Aged 33 years on discharge.

Granted a pension of 6d. per day for 6 months.

Medals

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean medal with one clasp.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

To live in Monmouth, Wales, on discharge.
