Birth & early life

Born at Basingstoke, Surrey, c.1837.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 26th of February 1855.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: None.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

Tried by a District Court-martial on the 6th of September 1855 for "Disgraceful Conduct: theft." Awarded, and given, 50 lashes.

A nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, shows him as being On Duty there from the 24th of October.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase", from Brighton on the 26th of June 1856. Payment of £30.

Served 1 year 80 days.

Conduct and character: "Indifferent." Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
