1326, Private Christopher KEARNEY — 13th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born in Louth, c.1828.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Dublin on the 16th of April 1849.

Age: 21.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Labourer.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 20th of September 1854.

Sent to the Depot at York when the regiment went to Canada, 11th of September 1866.

Died, "Whilst on furlo", on the 27th of April 1867.

Medals

Named as "Charles" Kearney on some rolls.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman, Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.

The muster roll for the period states: "Two medals sent to Mr. Pennington."

The Returned medal book states: "Crimean and Turkish medals returned to the Mint. No trace of issue."

EJB: The "Mr. Pennington" named was a senior clerk at the War Office.

Died, "Whilst on furlo", on the 27th of April 1867.
