Enlisted at Athlone on the 25th of October 1849, by R.S.M. John Clark.

He was wounded in action at Balaclava.
Sent to Scutari on the 27th of October 1854 and invalided to England on the 20th of January 1855.
Seen by Queen Victoria at Brompton Barracks, Chatham, on the 3rd of March 1855.
Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 14th of October 1855:
"Unfit for further service. Disabled by lameness of right leg from gun-shot wound — fracture of Tibia — received at Balaclava."
Served 5 years 279 days.

Awarded a pension of 9d. per day.
Aged 25 years on discharge.
To live in Brighton after discharge, but he died at Norwood on the 9th of April 1869.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava and Sebastopol.
According his death certificate he died at Bellevue Villa, George Street, Norwood, from "Pneumonia and Cerebal Apoplexy", aged 39 years, on the 9th of April 1869. His occupation was given as Riding Master. A W.H. Smith, of the Railway Bell, Gipsy Hill, Norwood, was present at, and the informant of his, death. He was buried in a common grave, the first of four later interments, in Grave No, 11864, Plot 10, on the 14th of April in the West Norwood Cemetery. No memorial stone was erected. (See photograph of his grave-space in the 4th Hussar file.)
