Birth & early life

Born in Liverpool, c.1835.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Liverpool on the 6th of January 1855.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Seaman.

Service

To the Crimea from Dublin on the 20th of June 1855, joining the regiment on the 19th of July.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

The muster rolls for the July-September 1858 period show him as "On Field Service" from September.

In action against the rebels at Zeerapore on the 29th of February 1859 and at Baroda on the 1st of January 1859.

Volunteered into the 19th Hussars on the 30th of November 1864, joining the regiment, with his wife, on the 25th of January 1865. Regimental no.1228.

Embarked for England on the 12th of May 1869.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Canterbury Depot on the 9th of August 1870, but the reason is not stated.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp.
