Tried by a Regimental Court-martial and imprisoned, 7th of January — 18th of February 1851, and to "forfeit all previous service."
Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Fedora" on the 27th of April 1854.
From Private to Corporal: 5th of December 1854.
Sent to Scutari on the 4th of January 1855 and rejoined the regiment on the 25th of February.
Invalided to Scutari on the 19th of January and sent to England on the 14th of February 1856.
Discharged from Dundalk on the 5th of July 1856, because:
"Unfit for further service. Suffers from varicose veins of and swelling of the left leg, which renders him unfit to ride. Was invalided for this and sent from the Crimea to Scutari and then home. Is quite unfit for the duties of a dragoon.
His disease is attributable in the first instance to exposure to cold when on guard-duty at Balaclava on or about the 26th of October 1854."

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year 2 months — and was present at the battles of the Alma and Inkerman.
