Birth & early life

Born c.1832.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Nottingham on the 26th of July 1852.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: None shown.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Shooting Star" on the 25th of April 1854.

At Scutari General Depot from the 22nd of September and sent to rejoin the regiment on the 23rd of November 1854.

Served with the detachment of the regiment under Lt. Colonel De Salis in theExpedition to Kertch on the 22nd of May 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 2nd of March 1856.

Surrendered as a "Deserter" to the Royal Marines on the 25th of December 1856.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Lummis and Wynn state, "no clasps", but he is to be found on the Sebastopol clasp roll.
