1222, Private Thomas MACINTOSH — 13th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born in Perth c.1819.

Enlistment

Enlisted into the 5th Fusiliers at Norwich on the 13th of April 1844.

Age: 24 years 10 months.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Groom.

Fair complexion. Grey eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Transferred to the 13th Light Dragoons on the 1st of January 1845. By "own request", Authority of the Horse Guards, dated the 27th of December 1844.

Sent sick to Scutari on the 27th of October 1854 and was invalided to England on the 28th of March 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dublin on the 25th of October 1858, as:

"Labours under scrofula and the general break-up of the constitution caused by exposure and hardship during the Crimean campaign. His state of health is such that he can never contribute towards earning his livelihood."

Served 14 years 194 days. In Turkey and the Crimea, 1 year 1 month.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Granted a pension of 6d. per day from the 25th of November 1862 and this was increased to 8d. from the 18th of September 1866.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Commemorations

Life after service

Living in the York Pension District after discharge.

Death & burial

Died at Leeds on the 31st of December 1869.
