"From wounds received in action. Received a sabre cut in action at Sindwab on the 19th of October 1859, so wounding his left hand as to render him useless for further service." Not aggravated by vice or intoxication."

On page 2nd of his documents is written; "Is entitled to the Turkish medal. Is also entitled to the medal with two clasps, for Gwalior [sic] and that for Central India..." Signed, E. MacNaghton, Major, 8H.
(The medal roll for the Indian Mutiny campaign only shows him as being entitled to the medal with clasp for C.I. He had served at Gwalior and this is probably where the confusion as to his being entitled to a second clasp arose from.)
