Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of June 1855.
A nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, shows him as being On Duty there from the 24th of October.
Deserted from Aldershot on the 6th of November 1858.
Rejoined the Regiment at Birmingham on the 25th of September 1859.
Confined: 25th of September — 12th of October 1859.
Tried by a Regimental Court-martial and in the Military Prison at Weedon from the 13th of October — 20th of January 1860. Also "to forfeit all previous service."
Re-engaged at Exeter for a further period of 12 years' service on the 3rd of September 1867.
He was then 31 years 11 months of age.
Embarked for India aboard the "Serapia" from Portsmouth on the 15th of October 1867.
The Discharge Book states: "Died, 5th of May 1869, at Meerut, India."
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

The India Office Records show his death from "bronchitis" at Meerut on the 4th of May 1869, aged 33 years, and his burial on the 5th of May by the Revd. Joseph Speare, Chaplain, in the Cantonment Cemetery.
A roll published by the 4th Hussars of those who went out to India with the Regiment in 1867 shows him as dying at Meerut of "dysentery" on the 4th of May 1869.
