Birth & early life

Born at Temple Patrick, Co. Antrim, c.1833.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Belfast on the 22nd of April 1854.

Age: 21 years 6 months.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Bleacher.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Sandy hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of July 1855.

Sent to Scutari on the 12th of September and rejoining the regiment on the 14th of November 1855, was then invalided to England.

He is shown on a nominal roll of men of the regiment at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, made out on the 9th of November 1855, as being In Hospital there from the 15th of September.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dundalk on the 21st of October 1856.

"Reduction of the Army and being unfit for further service. Is of a weakly constitution — the result of prolonged dysentery. Not likely to become an effective soldier."

Served 2 years 183 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 4 months.

Conduct: "Bad." Not in the possession of any Good Conduct badges.

He was granted a pension of 6d. per day from the 9th of December 1856.

Living in Belfast after discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
