Enlisted at Liverpool on the 23rd of November 1854.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of July 1855.
Transferred to the 2nd Dragoon Guards at Dundalk on the 1st of January 1857. Regimental No. 237.
Transferred to the 20th Hussars on the 1st of December 1861. Regimental No. 497.
Re-engaged for 12 years further service at Brighton on the 20th of June 1867 and transferred back into the 2nd Dragoon Guards as No. 1109.
Discharged from Brighton on the 19th of May 1873, as:
"Unfit for further service — has chronic bronchitis — incurred on duty six months ago — caught cold from a wetting whilst on military service. Is very debilitated.
Suffers from a very bad cough and disease of the bronchial tubes. Attributable to climate and military service.
Disease will be permanent and he will be able to contribute only slightly to his own support. The disease is not aggravated by intemperance or vice."

Documents confirm the award of four good conduct badges, also the Crimean medal, clasp for Sebastopol, Turkish Medal, Mutiny, clasp for Lucknow and the Long Service and Good Conduct medal.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
Mutiny medal with clasp for Lucknow.
Although his documents appear to confirm that he was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal, no trace of this on the particular medal roll can yet be found..
