Enlisted into the 37th Foot at Belfast on the 30th of April 1845. Regimental No. 2268.

An Edward Norton, Regimental No. 2240, had also enlisted in the same regiment at Belfast at the age of 18 years 4 months. Possibly an elder brother?
Transferred into the 1st Dragoon Guards on the 1st of October 1845. Regimental No. 1235.
Transferred into the 11th Hussars at Newbridge on the 1st of August 1853.
The Balaclava period muster roll shows him as "At the Depot, Varna", where he remained until at least the end of January 1855. There is no indication of when he rejoined the regiment in the Crimea proper.
To Kneller Hall as a "Military Musician" from the 1st of October — 27th of December 1858.
From Private to Corporal: (and to the Band) 28th of December 1858.
Reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 11th of August 1859.
Transferred to the 9th Lancers on the 31st of December 1859.
The muster roll however, states:
"This man was re-transferred from the 9th Lancers from the 1st of January 1860 but he did duty with that Corps up to the 31st of January, but no pay has been drawn for him by that regiment. His pay is therefore drawn in this regiment for January."
Deserted from Birmingham on the 1st of February 1860.
Can find no further trace to March of 1869.
