1495 Richard OGBURN — 4th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born in London.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Hampton Court on the 22nd of July 1851.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7". Trade, Labourer.

Sent to the General Depot at Scutari on the 16th of September 1854 and to rejoin the regiment on the 3rd of October 1855.

Sent to Scutari again on the 27th of October 1854 and where he remained until being invalided to England on the 31st of March 1855.

"Deserted" from Brighton on the 1st of March 1856 and rejoined on the 23rd of September 1856.

In "Military confinement" until the 17th of October and under "Civil imprisonment" in Lewes Gaol from the 18th of October until the 28th of December 1856.

Deserted" again from Brighton on the 25th of April 1857 and rejoined on the 18th of June 1857.

Transferred to the 8th Hussars at Aldershot on the 1st of September 1857. Regimental No. 23.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

From Private to Corporal: 1st of November 1859.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Aldershot "time expired", on the 28th of February 1865. Served 12 years 23 days, to count.

Conduct: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India,

Served at Kotah and Gwalior.
